I am building a filling station in the Philippines and already have a small restaurant. I am thinking about offering free wireless to repeat customers or as a bonus.
These are both small venues and a single router will have enough coverage. I have several Linksys WRT54g routers and will probably put DD-WRT on them.
My filling station is part of a franchise of more than 150 stations and if the hotspot is successful I have the potential to migrate the system to some fraction of the others.
I do not like the model of free software where the authors take a cut of purchased time and would rather own the software outright. The pricing is confused me somewhat, the low end is $99 for 5 connections-is that 5 simultaneous users? And is it upgradable after installation by 5 at a time or is it a whole new installation?
What is the sequence of operation for CuteHotspot? Is there [b]ANY[/b communication between my network and theirs? For validation, for serial number for anything? I understand the part about illegal propagation and fixing the mac address or ip addresses or even a dongle is acceptable.
I would like to have a dialog with some user or users that have this software installed before I make my decision and would welcome any interaction with the user base, either by this forum or privately.
I only see a few users registered in the forum and only a few posts for a product that is over a year old. I was hoping for a larger user base and it makes me a little cautious.
Thanks in Advance for any that would like to message me.

This is probably obvious but I should have included that I want userid and pwd control over the users since I don't want to provide free service to the bakery across the street. Printing bonus tickets good for a specified time will also help me drive business into my restaurant during the slow times.

|

I downloaded and installed the 2.2 Demo.
I enabled Internet Sharing with my second PCI Ethernet Card, default static address was set to: 192.168.0.1
I connected a Linksys WRT54G V1 router to the second PCI Card.
I reset the Router, which set its default address back to 192.168.1.1
In order to configure the router, I changed the static ip to 192.168.1.5 which gave me access to the new router
I changed its ip address to be 192.168.0.5
I changed the static card address back to be 192.168.0.1 but could not access the router beyond the password as it would not accept admin/admin
I loaded CuteHotSpot and connected to the second lan card
I made a wireless connection to the new router with my laptop but could not get through the router to CuteHotSpot.
I have attached a diagram of my setup. I would appreciate any help in setting the parameters in the WRT54G to play with CuteHotSpot.
Does it need a fixed ip address? Should it be configured as a gateway? Does it need DNS addresses?
I like what I have seen so far and if I can get the demo working so I can get some experience with the software it would help me a great deal.
Thanks in Advance

Greetings Sir,
I'm sorry for the delay with the answer, we've been on the vacations.
1) CuteHotspot is a child product of our flagship software, TrueCafe, which supports Wi-Fi billing, desktop PCs and thin clients and has much more users:
http://www.truecafe.net
(you can look at the support forum there)
2) Excuse me, what is confusing with our licensing policy?
3) You have to setup your network (without CuteHotspot) so that you direct all your Wi-Fi laptop traffic via your server computer. You should follow the setup guide, I hope it helps:
http://www.cutehotspot.com/doc/wifi_setup.html
Please let me know if you have any further questions!
Regards,
Serge. |
