for legal reasons I need a log showing which user or ticket accessed certain URL´s lets say about 1/2 or 1 year back in time. Is this possible with cuteHotspot (comparing 2 logs wold be OK)

Hello Beat,
There is no direct link between the URL log and a customer since there is no user information in the TCP/IP network packets.
Meanwhile you can track your URL log and session log (main menu > View > Sessions) to investigate what customer may get the corresponding URL.
Please let me know if you have any further questions!
Regards,
Serge. |

hello Serge,
thanks for reply. The URL-log shows date/time DHCP-assigned IP of the user and the URL - OK
Is there another log showing the user (or ticket-number) and the DHCP asigned IP (or MAC-number) and date/time?
And could the logs be as long as 6 months? Guess using backup-function.
In that case the problem would be solved.
best regards
B. Horn
(P.S. isn´t the users-MAC included in TCP/IP? if so, it could maybe included in URL-log. The EU-laws would admit MAC for identification) |

Hello Beat,
I agree we have to improve our log facility a little bit. We'll add MAC column to the URL log and IP or MAC to the user session log.
I will think about this more and let you know when we have this feature implemented.

Serge. |

hi Serge,
Thank you for considering my ideas.
I think your product is already very good compared to your competitors. I am really looking forward to these logging improvements. In the meantime I´ll continue testing as soon as I have my hardware ready (2nd NIC).

hi,
I maybe found another possibilíty to handle the problem:
I have seen, that the url-log shows internal dhcp assigned IP along with the url´s - thats already half of the problem solved.
Is there a log showing the client or the voucher-number related to the internal IP ?
Or could you provide such a log in future?
That way the clients could be identified.
I am simply afraid running a hotspot without a possibilty of identifying illegally acting users - and I´d really appreciate your software providing this. |

Hello Beat,
Hmm... I see what you mean... Unfortunately there is no report where you can see IP address of a terminal. We'll think on improving this.

Serge. |
